The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) is dedicated to finding homes for greyhounds that have retired from racing.

It is our mission to:

• Find suitable, loving homes for retired racing greyhounds.
• Train and prepare greyhounds for life as family pets.
• Provide ongoing advice and support to the greyhound and its new owners.

The GAP team know that greyhounds make fantastic pets. As with any breed of dog, they are individuals with unique personalities. Some are high energy, excitable and affectionate, while others are laid back, calm and reserved. However, in general greyhounds are best described as quiet and gentle dogs that thrive in a family home environment.

At GAP, we believe there is a greyhound to suit almost every situation. Whether you prefer an outgoing dog who enjoys obedience training or playing fetch with the kids for example, or you would like a calm and sensitive companion, we have a greyhound for you!

The staff at the GAP pride themselves on their ability to place the right greyhound successfully and consistently into the right home environments. We do this by taking the time to get to know each greyhound individually, learning about their personalities and training them for family homes.

Every greyhound that enters the program is health checked, desexed, wormed, microchipped, vaccinated and, have a dental examination and treatment. The greyhounds then spend time with the GAP team or with a foster carer to help them adjust to life as a pet.

Our foster carers play an integral role in helping our greyhounds become familiar with a variety of situations likely to be encountered once they become pets. Foster carers also implement basic obedience training, such as basic house manners so the greyhound is used to a family home routine.
